The Unionist Generation Victim of the Communist Repression: Pantelimon Halippa

(1883-1979)

Journalist and politician, vice-president (1917) and president (1918) of the National Council in Kishinev, proponent of the Union with Romania, minister for Bessarabia in the governments after 1918: Public Works, Communications, Labour, Health and Social Welfare, senator and member of Parliament (1918-1934), corresponding member of the Romanian Academy (1918).

Arrested in 1950 and imprisoned without trial at Sighet, handed over to the Soviet authorities in 1952, who sentenced him to twenty-five years hard labour, returned to Romania and was imprisoned at Gherla until 1957.
