Christian Faludi and Tobias Schwessinger from the University of Jena embarked on a journey through Central and Eastern Europe in search of sites that have been turned into museums and memorials over the last 30 years. They set out to visit Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Serbia, Slovakia, and Hungary.
Guided by Andrea Dobeș Furtos and Norbert Kondrat, the two German researchers visited the Memorial to the Victims of Communism in Sighet on 15 August. They were keen to find out more about the Civic Academy Foundation’s project to transform the remnants of the former political prison in Sighet into a museum.
