Students from the Faculty of European Studies Cluj on a study visit in Bucharest, 15 March

On 15 March, we had the pleasure of welcoming students from the Faculty of European Studies of Babeș-Bolyai University to the Bucharest office of the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance. They were accompanied by Professor Ovidiu Vaida. During their visit, the students spoke with Ana Blandiana, writer and founder of the Sighet Memorial, about recent history.

 

Documentary visit of a group of students from the Faculty of Letters of Babeș-Bolyai University (BBU) Cluj to the Sighet Memorial

On 29 April, Professor Ruxandra Cesereanu and 45 students from the Faculty of Letters of Babeș-Bolyai University visited the Sighet Memorial. The guided tours through the museum were led by our colleagues Gabriela Kadar, Annamaria Linzenbold, and Luminița Țintaș.

 

Documentary visit of a group of students from the Faculty of Catholic Theology Iași to the Sighet Memorial 

On 29 April, students from the Faculty of Catholic Theology in Iași, accompanied by Father Fabian Doboș, visited the Sighet Memorial. Each year, they undertake a pilgrimage to Sighet in memory of Anton Durcovici. Our colleague Andrea Dobeș provided the guided tour for the group.

 

Study visit to the Bucharest office of the Sighet Memorial

On 7 June, a study visit by theology students from both Germany and Romania was held at the Bucharest office of the Sighet Memorial. The session was hosted by researcher Dănuț Vasile who presented the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance, and answered the visitors’ questions about the history of communism in Romania.

 

The attendees of the Sighet School of Freedom 2023 visit the Memorial

On 30 June, attendees of the 2023 edition of the Sighet School of Freedom, organised by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation and the Institute for Freedom and Democracy, visited the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance. The guided tour was conducted by Dr. Andrea Furtos, and Norbert Kondrat.

Subsequently to the visit, historians Prof. Dr. Virgiliu Țârău from the Faculty of History and Philosophy at Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj, and Dr. Andrea Furtos, from the Sighet Memorial, spoke about totalitarian regimes in Romania. The discussion held in the conference room ended with a Q&A session.

 

Study visit to the Memorial

On 8-9 July, BA and MA students from the Faculty of History of Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, accompanied by Prof. Dr. Virgiliu Țârău, undertook their traditional annual study visit to the Memorial. Our colleague Dr. Andrea Dobeș guided them throughout the visit, which concluded at Paupers’ Cemetery – Commemoration Park.

 

Documentary visit to the Memorial

On July 16th, attendees from Myanmar, Slovenia, Italy, the Netherlands, and Israel participating in the summer course of the International Cooperation Centre of Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca visited Sighet for a documentary visit. Our colleague Norbert Kondrat served as their guide.
