On Monday, 3 July 2006, the Sighet Memorial International Centre for Studies of Communism organised a conference given by Israeli professor and critic Leon Volovici, originally from Romania, on the subject of “Memory and Memorial in Israel”. Director of Research at the International Centre for the Study of Anti-Semitism at the Hebrew university of Jerusalem, Leon Volovici is the author of books including “The appearance of the Writer in Romanian Culture” and “Nationalist Ideology and the Jewish Problem: Essay on the Forms of Intellectual Anti-Semitism in Romania of the 1930s”.
The conference, chaired by Ana Blandiana and Romulus Rusan, was attended by a numerous public, and the important figures present at the event included E. S. Rodica Radian Gordon, Ambassador of the State of Israel to Bucharest.
