On the 5th of June 2003, the Lord’s Ascension, the “Civic Academy” Foundation and the Memorial of Victims and Resistance to Communism organised at Sighetu Marmatiei the Remembrance Day
A commemorative requiem was organised at the Cemetery of the Poor, for the peaceful rest of the souls and for the memory of all those who died in prisons, concentration camps and other such detention and deportation places.
On this occasion, an exhibition was inaugurated at the Sighet Memorial with photographs of the former political prisoners, taken from the archive of the International Center for Studies on Communism. Also, objects recently included in the patrimony of the Memorial, donated by Mrs. Lucretia Jurj-Costescu, Mrs. Aurora Ille-Dumitrescu and Mr. Constantin Antohie were presented to the public.
The event continued with an artistic performance at the Memorial.
Former political prisoners, deportees and their families participated in the events as well as all those who did not give up recalling the suffering.
