Sighet Memorial. Day of Remembrance 2021

On June 10, on the Feast of the Ascension and Heroes’ Day, the Sighet Memorial held the Day of Remembrance, opening its doors to the public.

As part of the events organized to mark this year’s Day of Remembrance, awards were presented to students of the Dragoș Vodă National High School who actively participated in various educational activities organized by the Civic Academy Foundation and the Sighet Memorial. Along with the 22 students, history teachers Claudia Dura and Luminița Colopelinc, who coordinated the students’ activities, also received awards.

The award ceremony was held by Virginia Ion, Andrea Dobeș and Voica Potârcă.

The main project in 2021 involving students from the Dragoș Vodă National High School was the W-CHILD project, Behind Closed Doors. Growing up under Totalitarian Regimes / Growing up in Wartime.

The W-CHILD Project brings together four organisations from four countries affected by wars and/or totalitarian regimes during the 20th century: URBAN Association (Bosnia and Herzegovina) as the lead partner, the Civic Academy Foundation – Memorial to the Victims of Communism and of the Resistance (Romania), the ATRIUM Association (Italy) and Post Bellum (Czech Republic). The project is co-financed by the European Union through the Europe for Citizens – European Remembrance programme.
