The exhibition 3 Decades of Remembrance

The exhibition Three Decades of Remembrance. The Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance was organised in 2023 in commemoration of the 30th anniversary of the Memorial.

This bilingual exhibition, featuring both Romanian and English, offers insights into the history and the activities of this establishment through a collection of images and documents.

‘Ever since its inception three decades ago in the proposal submitted to the Council of Europe to its current status as a globally renowned institution, the seminal concept underpinning the Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance has always been “When justice does not succeed in being a form of remembrance, remembrance alone can be a form of justice”. This encapsulates the imperativeness of reviving collective memory in the pursuit of justice, as the Memorial stands as a custodian of communist history from the perspective of its victims’, declared Ana Blandiana, founder of the Memorial.

Three Decades of Remembrance was an exhibition of the Civic Academy Foundation – Memorial to the Victims of Communism and to the Resistance.

The exhibition also features a panel highlighting the European Heritage Label programme. This panel of the touring exhibition helps to disseminate information to a broader audience, thereby fostering awareness about this European programme and the values it espouses.
